Men

"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another"

Proverbs 27:17

Forging metal requires intense heat and pounding of the blacksmith’s hammer. Without the heat and the hammer, the metal cannot be shaped. It takes the heat and the hammer to shape the metal into something useful. And the same is true of us. God uses the words of friends, the encouragement and challenge of friends, to shape us. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Our destiny is to become more and more like Jesus. To think like Him, to love like Him,  and to act like Him. Wise men want that. Therefore, wise men have friends who will encourage them, challenge them, and speak truth into their lives. Wise men, men who really want to live like Jesus, walk with friends who want the same.

Every man needs a Proverbs 27 friend. Not just golfing buddy or a Facebook friend, but a true “iron sharpens iron” friend. That’s the heart of our men’s ministry.

King Solomon explained the benefit of this kind of friendship. “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble  …  A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-11).
