Hope, Because Every Day Brings Us Closer

May 3, 2020

Every day brings us closer to “you know what,” yet as Christians, we have hope. I love the lyrics of a new worship hymn which ask the question, “What is our hope in life and death?” The resounding answer is “Christ alone! Christ alone!” Our hope in life and in death is Christ alone! Hope is trusting God to help us in this life and trusting Him to get us to the next life. That’s why, as the Bible says, we “rejoice in hope!” (Romans 12:12).

We have hope because God is great and God is good. We have hope because Jesus loves us and promises to be with us. We have hope because heaven is real and very soon we will see Jesus face to face and live with Him forever!
Therefore, we “rejoice in hope,” even though every day brings us closer to “you know what.” Every day brings us closer to death, and every day brings us closer to heaven, to seeing Jesus face to face, to experiencing relief, rest, and peace, to being with Him forever.

The Apostle Paul reminded the Christians at Corinth of this great truth, and he reminds us today. In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, Paul boldly declared, “We do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are temporal, but the things that are unseen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18, ESV).
