Our Father Who Art in Heaven
When the disciples heard Jesus pray, they noticed that the way He prayed was different from the way the rabbis prayed. So they asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. And He gave them what we call The Lord’s Prayer. For the next few weeks, we’re going to study the Lord’s Prayer and let Jesus teach us how to pray.
This series is to remind us that prayer is an invitation to talk to God. Even better, it is an invitation to talk to our Father. When we really think about it, it is amazing that the Creator of the universe would listen to the prayers of such small creatures like us, and yet that’s exactly what our Father promises to do.
This message focuses on the first line. “Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.” The Lord’s Prayer begins with adoration. It begins with trusting Him as Father and revering Him as holy. It teaches us how to approach God. Because God is our Father, we can trust that He cares and will hear our prayers. And because God is holy, we can trust that He is good and will answer our prayers in the best way.
