Persevere - Avoiding Shipwreck
Spiritual shipwreck is a possibility for any of us. That's why Paul once warned Timothy, “Fight the good fight, keep the faith … because some have suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith” (1 Timothy 1:18-19).
Spiritual shipwreck most often happens slowly and gradually and without notice until it’s too late. It’s waking up one day and finding yourself in a place you never thought you would be, having done things you never thought you would do, and becoming someone you never thought you would be. Spiritual shipwreck is slowly drifting off course and then suddenly slamming into the rocks. There are a lot of reasons why it happens. Carelessness, emptiness, numbness of soul. Arrogance, pride, self-righteousness. Regardless of the cause, spiritual drift puts your walk with God at risk, it puts your reputation at risk, it puts your family at risk. And if you’re not careful, drift becomes shipwreck.
