WHO ARE YOU? The answer to that question goes beyond your name, where you grew up, or what kind of job you have. It goes beyond the family in which you grew up or the neighborhood in which you live. Who you really are has nothing to do with the size of your house or the size of your bank account? So who are you? What defines you? What makes you … you? We struggle between who we think we are, who others think we are, and who God says we are. Of the three, one matters the most. The opinion that matters most is God’s! Therefore, your history is not your identity. Your failures do not define you. Your successes do not define you. Your pain does not define you. And someone else’s opinion does not determine your worth. As Christians, our identity and our worth are defined by our relationship with Jesus Christ. Being a Christian is more than a label, more than attending church, and more than praying before we eat. Understanding our identity in Christ allows us to rest in knowing that we are fully accepted and loved by God. It’s seeing ourselves as God sees us and allowing that, more than anything else, to shape who we are and how we live. This message focuses on Ephesians 4:17-24.
