Words to Live By - John
This message is about the odd and fascinating life of John the Baptist, whose life can be summed up in one phrase – “He must increase, and I must decrease” (John 3:30). In the deserts of Judea, John urged people to repent of their sins and to prepare for the coming of the Messiah. When Jesus arrived, John baptized Jesus as a way of declaring that He was indeed the one sent by God. By saying “He must increase, and I must decrease,” John was declaring that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Lord of all. Yet, there is more to John’s words. There is a daily application for us as followers of Jesus. We too must say, “He must increase, and I must decrease.” Our most earnest and genuine prayer should be may my life be more and more about Jesus, and less and less about me.
