THEOLOGY - CREATION & SCIENCE - The Great Debate

Apr 23, 2023

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). That’s profound. That’s bold. It’s epic. The opening line in the Bible declares that God exists and that God created everything. It’s simple and clear. A child can understand it. And the appropriate response is humility and awe. Genesis 1-2 is how God explains creation to us. Yet, science insists that sometime in the distant past, a “big bang,” a cosmic accident, set in motion an evolutionary process that results in everything we see today. If that’s true, there is no need for God scientifically, and there is no need for God theologically. Thus, the conflict between science and faith. So, is life the result of random chance, a cosmic accident, and evolutionary process, or are we specifically and purposely created by God?
